This program funds individual flood mitigation projects and project scoping for Repetitive Loss, Severe Repetitive Loss, or Substantially Damaged properties. Eligible applicants are applicants with an eligible flood-related major disaster declaration; federally recognized tribes and U.S. territories may also apply directly to FEMA, with some special set-asides noted for them. FEMA says the total available funding is $500 million, with expected awards varying up to $40 million, and up to 10% of the funding may go to applicant management costs. The text says structures must have had an NFIP policy, including a Group Flood Insurance Policy, in effect before the application period opened and that policy must be maintained throughout the life of the structure. Cost share requirements are mentioned in the notice but the specific requirement is not stated in the excerpt provided.
What it funds
Official description from grants.gov
FY 2024 FMA Swift Current aims to better align the delivery of FMA flood mitigation funding to the disaster survivor experience. The FMA grant program makes federal funds available to states, U.S. territories, federally recognized Indian/Native American Tribal Governments, and local governments to reduce or eliminate the risk of repetitive flood damage to buildings and structures insured under the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), and within NFIP-participating communities. FMA funds a variety of flood mitigation activities that are designed to reduce flood risk to NFIP policyholders in an effort to reduce the NFIP’s financial exposure. Applicants can submit applications for this funding opportunity through FEMA Grants Outcomes (GO). Access the system at https://go.fema.gov/.
