The Community Food Projects Competitive Grants Program funds training and technical assistance, planning projects, and longer-term community food projects that address food and nutrition security, hunger, food access, and related food system needs. For Planning Projects and Community Food Projects, only public food program service providers, tribal organizations, and private nonprofit entities may apply; for Training and Technical Assistance, eligible applicants are limited to nongovernmental organizations, state Cooperative Extension Services, regional food systems centers, Federal, state or Tribal agencies, and institutions of higher education. The program expects one T&TA continuation award of up to $250,000 per year and $1 million over four years, about 5 Planning Project awards from $25,000 to $50,000, and about 15 Community Food Project awards from $125,000 to $400,000. Planning Projects and Community Food Projects require a dollar-for-dollar match, while the Training and Technical Assistance project has no match requirement. The CFPCGP projects are to be designed to require a one-time contribution of Federal assistance to become self-reliant and meet short- and long-term goals. Applicants are required to address at least one short-term and one long-term CFPCGP goals that best fit the plan or project being proposed to ensure a comprehensive and enduring approach to resolving food and nutrition security and hunger.
