The FY26 Lung Cancer Translational Research Award funds advanced translational research in lung cancer that addresses at least one listed area of emphasis and is meant to move promising ideas toward clinical use. Eligible applicants include extramural and intramural U.S. Department of War organizations, as well as foreign or domestic, for-profit or nonprofit, and public or private organizations; the principal investigator must be an independent investigator at an eligible organization. The program expects to fund about six awards with roughly $9.1 million total, with total cost caps of up to $1.35 million for Funding Level 1 and up to $1.85 million for Funding Level 2. Funding Level 1 allows up to 3 years and Funding Level 2 up to 4 years, cost sharing is not required, and applications focused only on mesothelioma will not be accepted.

Summary: The fiscal year 2026 (FY26) Lung Cancer Research Program (LCRP) Translational Research Award (TRA) supports advanced translational research that will foster transformation of promising ideas in lung cancer into clinical applications. Research must address at least one of the FY26 LCRP areas of emphasis. Distinctive Features: This funding mechanism intends to support a broad range of translational studies and allows application submission under: Funding Level 1 – Advanced/late-stage preclinical work or correlative studies; or Funding Level 2 – Pilot clinical trials of novel interventions.
