At a glance
This program funds preclinical development of therapeutic agents for neurological or neuromuscular disorders, including characterization, pharmacokinetic studies, pharmacodynamic studies, and in vivo efficacy studies. It supports small molecules and biologics such as peptides, proteins, oligonucleotides, gene therapies, and cell therapies, but not optimization, IND-enabling work, clinical studies, or basic disease mechanism research. Eligible applicants include U.S. and non-U.S. organizations, including nonprofits, universities, governments, for-profits, and small businesses, and foreign organizations and foreign components are allowed. Direct costs cannot exceed $499,000 in any one year and $750,000 over the full three-year project period, with no more than two years in either the R61 or R33 phase. No cost sharing is required, and clinical trials are not allowed.
What it funds
Official description from grants.gov
Reissue PAR-21-122. This NOFO provides funding to conduct pharmacodynamic, pharmacokinetic, and in vivo efficacy studies to demonstrate that proposed therapeutic agent(s) have sufficient biological activity to warrant further development to treat neurological or neuromuscular disorders that fall under the NINDS mission. Therapeutic agents include small molecules, biologics or biotechnology-derived products. This FOA is part of a suite of Innovation Grants to Nurture Initial Translational Efforts (IGNITE) to advance projects to the point where they can meet the entry criteria for the Blueprint Neurotherapeutics Network or other translational programs.
