This program funds early career genomics research projects at NHGRI’s mission areas, including genome biology, genomics of disease, genomic medicine, genomic data science, bioinformatics, and related ethical, legal, and social issues. Only NIH-defined Early Stage Investigators who are independent researchers with a tenure-track or equivalent faculty appointment can apply, and foreign organizations and non-domestic U.S. components are not eligible. Awards are for up to $400,000 in direct costs per year for up to 5 years, with an expected 3 to 5 awards and at least $2 million committed for each of FY 2022, 2023, and 2024. No cost sharing is required.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement is intended to identify and support research projects by exceptionally promising Early Stage Investigators with a long-term career interest in pursuing innovative research in genomics. This opportunity is open to research in all areas relevant to the mission of NHGRI, including genomic sciences, genomic medicine, genomic data science, and ethical, legal, and social implications of genomics.
