This program provides fellowship support for experienced scientists who want to change the direction of their research or gain new research skills in health-related fields. Applicants must be independent researchers with at least seven years of research experience beyond the doctorate, and the award is not for postdoctoral researchers or for independent clinical trials. Awards are typically requested for two years or less, and the number of awards depends on NIH appropriations and the quality of applications. No cost sharing is required.
